UPS UPS:

A UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) will keep 120v gear running for a limited time during a blackout. I've
got a large one in my basement powering my network gear and servers, as well as a few smaller ones upstairs in
the computer lab powering my workhorse computer and main computer. Of course the larger loads like laser
printers are not part of the battery backup.

The downside to having a UPS is the battery will degrade over time and needs to be replaced occasionally. A lot
of less tech-savvy computer users don't realize the battery is replaceable and just replace the entire UPS when
the runtime gets too short. (and others know about the battery but decide to replace it all anyway, a waste if
you ask me!)
